Shenyang Yuanda Compressor Co., Ltd. (SYCC), a subsidiary of Burckhardt Compression, has secured several orders for diaphragm compressor units that will support hydrogen applications in the semiconductor industry. The company made the announcement on 22 October 2026 from Winterthur, Switzerland, and Shenyang, China.
Compressors Destined for Semiconductor Plants in Two Markets
The units will serve semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Korea, according to the company. They are being supplied through a leading global industrial gas supplier, which Burckhardt Compression did not name in its release.
Each unit is designed to raise hydrogen pressure downstream of a purification system. The company said this step enables the reliable delivery of the ultra-high-purity hydrogen that advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes require.
Why Chipmakers Need Hydrogen
The company described hydrogen as playing a critical role in semiconductor production. It is used in key manufacturing steps including epitaxial growth, annealing, deposition and advanced lithography processes. In those applications, hydrogen helps chip manufacturers maintain the extremely high levels of purity and precision that today's semiconductors demand.
Expansion of Chip Capacity Lifts Demand for Process Gases
Burckhardt Compression tied the orders to wider developments in the chip sector. Continued investment in artificial intelligence, data centers, advanced electronics and digital infrastructure is driving semiconductor manufacturers around the world to expand production capacity. According to the company, that expansion is increasing demand for ultra-high-purity process gases and for the compression technologies needed across the semiconductor value chain.
Piston and Diaphragm Technology at the Core
SYCC is drawing on Burckhardt Compression's proven piston and gas-tight diaphragm compressor technologies to deliver the hydrogen compression solutions. The company stated that the solutions are designed to meet the stringent purity, safety and reliability requirements of semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
Entry Into a New Market
The company said the orders further strengthen Burckhardt Compression's position in hydrogen compression. It added that the contracts give it entry into a new market, built on its existing technology portfolio. The announcement did not disclose the value of the orders, how many compressor units are involved, or delivery timelines.
