OMNIVISION's OG05D 5MP global shutter HDR CMOS sensor delivers 146 fps, 30% lower power and compact BSI design for industrial machine vision, robotics and
Research Desk
OMNIVISION has introduced the OG05D, a 2.2-micron (µm) 5-megapixel (MP) global shutter (GS) high dynamic range (HDR) CMOS image sensor that the company says is the first of its kind built specifically for industrial machine vision. The sensor reaches a maximum output of 146 frames per second (fps) in linear mode, a figure the company puts at 143% faster than previous-generation sensors.
The product brings together Nyxel® near-infrared (NIR) technology, HDR capability, low power consumption, and a compact optical format in a stacked backside-illuminated (BSI) design. Compared with the previous-generation 5MP product, OMNIVISION reports a 30% reduction in power and a sensor 30% smaller in size.
The company positions the OG05D as an optimized option for industrial and robotic vision systems where imaging performance, sensor size, and power efficiency are all critical.
Target applications include barcode scanners, factory automation, compact AI cameras, and humanoid robotics.
OMNIVISION singles out data-collection devices for robotics training as a particularly important use case, reflecting what the company describes as rapid growth in industrial machine vision and robotics driving demand for image sensors designed for these emerging applications.
Kelly Yan, staff product marketing manager at OMNIVISION, said the OG05D delivers a combination of compact size, high-speed imaging, excellent HDR performance, and industry-leading low power consumption, enabling customers to build smaller, more capable, and power-efficient industrial vision systems.
A defining characteristic of the OG05D is its delivery of high dynamic range in a single exposure. According to the company, this reduces the motion artifacts associated with multi-exposure HDR methods.
The sensor also tackles the imaging challenges of traditional non-HDR sensors through RGB-IR on-chip processing, higher NIR quantum efficiency (QE), and low noise enabled by dual conversion gain (DCG™).
The device comes in a 1/2.5-inch optical format with a package size of 6.6 µm x 5.3 µm, dimensions OMNIVISION describes as ideal for robotic, industrial, and embedded AI camera designs. DCG HDR allows high-quality image capture in scenes that contain both bright highlights and dark shadows.
The company states that the enhanced HDR capability improves object detection and navigation in real-world environments where lighting conditions frequently change, such as factories, warehouses, and outdoor settings.
The OG05D's 2.2 µm 5MP BSI global shutter pixel is described by OMNIVISION as the industry's smallest >70 dB HDR-capable pixel.
Nyxel® technology enhances NIR quantum efficiency to more than 55% at 850nm and more than 35% at 940nm.
HDR support covers 60 fps DCG™ single-exposure HDR on-chip combination and 60 fps 3-exposure (3s) HDR on-chip combination. The sensor operates in RGB, mono and RGB-IR modes and includes RGB-IR on-chip remosaic capability.
The OG05D is currently available for sampling, with mass production scheduled for Q4 2026. Customers can reach out to OMNIVISION sales representatives or consult the company's website for more information.
The sensor will be shown publicly at the VISION Show in Stuttgart, Germany, running October 6-8, 2026. OMNIVISION will exhibit in Hall 10, Booth 10D10.
