Infineon Technologies AG has opened a new backend manufacturing facility in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, in a ceremony held with Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, and Alexander Gorski, Chief Operations Officer of Infineon Technologies.
The announcement was made on Oct. 1, 2026, and the company expects the investment to create up to 1,000 highly skilled jobs as the site ramps up. For Infineon, the inauguration adds capacity for future growth and strengthens and further diversifies its global production network.
For Thailand, the German chipmaker's arrival represents a government-endorsed boost to the country's semiconductor ambitions at a moment when Bangkok is courting advanced manufacturing investment.
The facility opened initially as Module A, but the build-out is not expected to stop there. The site can scale up to five modules over time, giving Bangkok the potential to become one of Infineon's largest backend manufacturing sites. Gorski described the location and its headroom for growth as the decisive factors.
"What makes Bangkok such an important addition to our global manufacturing footprint is its unique combination of location and growth potential," he said. "We are establishing a new hub in the heart of Southeast Asia, surrounded by a fast-growing ecosystem and with excellent access to global logistics. This helps us further diversify our manufacturing network across regions and serve our customers with resilient capacity and great flexibility. We have built the Bangkok site with the future in mind."
The company said the hub complements the ongoing expansion of Infineon's frontend manufacturing capacities and reinforces its ability to serve customers worldwide, positioning the facility as a strategic addition to its globally diversified manufacturing footprint. The company sees long-term semiconductor demand continuing to grow, driven by digitalization, electrification and the energy transition.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul framed the project as an endorsement of the country's technology strategy. "Infineon's new backend manufacturing site in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, is a strong vote of confidence in Thailand's future as a leading semiconductor location," he said.
"Together, we are advancing Thailand's semiconductor ecosystem, strengthening our role in the global value chain and creating new opportunities and highly skilled jobs for future generations. We welcome Infineon's long-term engagement and look forward to deepening our cooperation."
According to the company, Thailand's national technology strategy is creating new momentum for advanced manufacturing and technology-driven growth in the region. The country offers excellent connections throughout Southeast Asia, proximity to key customer markets and a long-standing semiconductor manufacturing heritage. Infineon said the Bangkok site builds on local expertise, established partnerships and a highly skilled workforce while contributing to the further development of the country's semiconductor ecosystem.
The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), a government agency under the Office of the Prime Minister, is described in the announcement as the agency responsible for fostering valuable investment in Thailand through promotion packages, facilitation services and the integration and connection of businesses.
The site currently employs around 350 people and is expected to grow to approximately 1,000 employees as Module A ramps up. Beyond manufacturing, Infineon supports talent development through collaborations with universities, educational institutions and industry partners. How quickly the workforce expands from its current level toward the roughly 1,000 employees Infineon expects will depend on the ramp-up of the first building, the initial step in a phased build-out that could ultimately see Bangkok rank among the company's largest backend manufacturing locations.
The new facility combines advanced automation, scalable design and a digital manufacturing backbone to support efficient, stable and high-quality production at scale. Built as a greenfield site, it leverages proven expertise from Infineon's established backend manufacturing locations while retaining the flexibility to adapt to evolving customer requirements, new technologies and large production volumes.
Equipped with advanced cleanroom, assembly and test capabilities, all supported by a high level of automation, the Bangkok site covers the full spectrum of semiconductor backend processes as well as wafer test. Infineon says this combination strengthens the site's role within its manufacturing network and enables increasingly complex, high-value semiconductor solutions for applications across the automotive, industrial and energy infrastructure sectors. Those capabilities, the company noted, contribute directly to technologies that drive electrification, energy efficiency and digitalization worldwide.
Sustainability considerations were built into the site from the start. The Bangkok facility runs on 100 percent green electricity, incorporates water recycling and rainwater collection systems, and carries solar modules that generate renewable energy on site. Together, these measures support resource-efficient manufacturing and, according to the company, contribute to Infineon's strategic priority of continuously reducing its carbon footprint across the entire value chain.
Infineon positioned the Bangkok hub within a broader strategy of geographic diversification. The Southeast Asian location, surrounded by a fast-growing ecosystem and offering excellent access to global logistics, helps the company diversify manufacturing across regions and serve customers with resilient capacity and flexibility, according to the announcement. Infineon Technologies AG, a global semiconductor leader in power systems and IoT, says it drives decarbonization and digitalization with its products. The company's shares trade on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker IFX and on OTCQX under IFNNY.
